We think: Asian demand threatens Florida's softshell turtles

Sharp-eyed naturalists in Florida have long recognized that tubular snout poking out of the water. It belongs to the Florida softshell turtle, a long-necked, pointy-nosed creature once abundant in Florida's freshwater lakes and rivers.
But dozens of scientists are sounding a loud alarm over the turtles' future. So is Gov. Charlie Crist, who earlier this month urged the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to ban the harvest of wild turtles.(read)
